Welcome to my podcast, Trouble at Taboo Junction, Author Conversations with Amanda Coreishy!
Enjoy conversations with authors on the Trouble at Taboo Junction author podcast!
Over the last four months I've been exploring fascinating conversations with authors on the Trouble at Taboo Junction author podcast over on Substack.
Scarlet Ibis James, author of Scarlet Birthright, What They Left Behind, chatted with me about writing about inter-racial relationships, the reasons racism doesn't feature much in her fiction, whereas African spirituality does, and writing auto-fiction. Naturally we strayed into our experiences of race relations in Trinidad too.
In my conversation with D Adiba, author of The Wrong Way to Wright, we spoke about the 'situationships' that inspired her novel, the influence of Malcolm X, spiritual reflections in an age of reactivity and emotional health.
Zachary Dillon, author of I Hear You Watching, reads extracts from his novel - a work of auto-fiction about hearing voices. We speak openly about psychosis, race in America, writing about sex, self-censorship and the risks and rewards of brutally honest writing.
Dale Mahfood, author of When Trees Fall, spoke about the work that goes into writing fiction aiming for historical and cultural accuracy. His novel is set in 1940s Jamaica and our conversation spanned writing family saga, family separation as a theme in Caribbean fiction, Myal, patwa and much more. This episode also includes readings from his novel.
I hope you'll find each of these conversations to be as rich and stimulating as I did! Check them out here, over on Substack.
The podcast is free to access for both subcribers and non-subscribers. In each case the show notes include a treasure trove of book recommendations and references emerging from our conversations as well as a listening guide, and of course links to the author's websites and books.
And I'm really excited to bring you many more of these author conversations over 2026!
